David Spangler retired to
Florida following a thirty-three
year teaching career which
culminated teaching United
States history to Middle School
students in Irvington, New York.
His expertise in facilitating a
team approach to learning and
developing special projects
involving students of all
abilities in higher level
thinking skills were the talents
of which he is most proud.
Since his retirement to St.
Petersburg in 2003, Dave has
involved himself in volunteer
work working with Lutheran
Relief Services in a refugee
mentorship program. In addition,
he has taught classes at the
University of Phoenix (Tampa
Campus) on the History of the
Constitution.
Dave looks forward to working on
the Board of the Carl Sagan
Academy to help bring a quality
educational experience to the
students who attend. He looks
forward to bringing his
experience and enthusiasm to
meet the challenge with an eye
on replicating the success which
Carl Sagan has the potential to
have.
Dave is married with three grown
children. His wife, Tina, works
as an organizational development
consultant and is equally
enthusiastic about the role that
the Carl Sagan Academy will play
in developing young minds.
